In Rajasthan, water
is not a given
Rajasthan is India's driest state. In many rural areas, children walk kilometres each day to fetch water that is often contaminated. Schools — places of learning and growth — frequently lack the most basic necessity: safe drinking water.
The consequences are severe. Waterborne diseases cause millions of school days to be lost every year. Children, especially girls, drop out because their days are consumed by the search for water rather than the pursuit of education.
We saw this reality. We grew up in this land. And we decided that our family's response would not be words — it would be water.
